Higher fuel prices won’t deter travellers, says Matta

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians will still travel within and outside the country despite higher fuel prices but they will travel less than before, according to Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta). Matta president Ngiam Foon said domestic and Asian regional travel would definitely be more popular among the people. He said the travel shift from Europe to Asia had been going on over the last one or two years, which could be seen through the consumer buying pattern. “Destinations like China, South Korea and Taiwan will continue to be popular because of the pricing.

Fare fair: (From left)Ngiam, organising chairman Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun and deputy organising chairman Mr. K. Narayanan.

“After the Olympics, people are already starting to think about travelling to certain parts of China,” he said here yesterday.
“Malaysians have made travel as part of our lifestyle. On that basis, I’m confident that people will still travel despite the fuel hike except that they will watch their wallet a bit.
He said those who saved retirement money for long haul trips to Europe would continue with their plan for their once-in-a-lifetime travel.
On whether travel to Thailand would be affected by the anti-government street protests, he anticipated that there would be a minor impact but Malaysians particularly businessmen would continue to go to Thailand.
Asked whether prices of travel deals had gone up for the fair because of the fuel surcharge increase, he said: “I don’t think it will be more than 10%.”
The projected sales turnover for the three-day fair is RM80mil while the expected visitor turnout is 70,000 as opposed to RM95mil and 75,000 visitors for the fair in March.
There will be more than 200 exhibitors occupying 880 booths during the fair, which begins today until Sept 9 at Putra World Trade Centre.

The Lowest Investment Amount RM1.20

Newspaper is a good investment. We get to know updated news and make us alert with things happen in our country and in the world. I'm prefer The Star and I think this is the best newspaper with RM1.20 from Monday to Friday and RM1.50 for Saturday to Sunday. Investment less than RM2.00 per day! This amount is cheaper than our breakfast.
I'm strongly agreed that paying a little more attention to the newspaper advertisements really helps us to save especially when we go out shopping for household items. As per stated in The Star on last Sunday newspaper is the best media to find the best bargains. Just go through the newspapers and look out for promotions that the hypermarkets are having. Almost everyday hypermarkets update their promotions such as Tesco, Carrefour, Giant, The Store, etc. This is very good for consumer because they can compared the prices between the hypermarkets.
Do you know what is the benefit with the minimum investment RM1.2o? Beside information's and knowledge we can sell our old newspaper. So.. don't forget to sell your old newspaper!.

Interest Rate Changes To Credit Cardholders Effective July 1

Plan that’s of interest to credit cardholders
By M. KRISHNAMOORTHY
The Star Wednesday July 9, 2008
KUALA LUMPUR: Credit cardholders will have reason to smile, as the stiff 18% per annum interest rate has been reduced effective July 1.
Bank Negara has introduced a tiered interest rate to reward cardholders who pay their monthly statements before the due date.
For those who pay their credit card bills promptly for 12 consecutive months, the interest rate is reduced to 15% per annum. The cardholder will get to enjoy the lower interest rate from the 13th month.
For those who pay promptly for at least 10 out of 12 months, the interest rate is be lowered by 1% to 17%. The ceiling rate of 18% per annum will still be applicable for other cardholders.
The comforting news is that cardholders do not have to settle the outstanding amount in full – they need to pay only the minimum amount involved.
Credit cardholders have been informed of the new-tiered interest rate structure by their respective banks.
An Association of Banks Malaysia official said Bank Negara had introduced the tiered finance charges to promote more prudent financial management among credit cardholders.
On average, one-third of 2.7 million credit cardholders use their credit cards as a payment instrument, settling their credit card outstanding amount in full every month.
Over half the cardholders pay at least the minimum amount due promptly and roll over the remaining balance. .
It was reported earlier that from July 1, credit cardholders who make minimum or partial repayment of their monthly outstanding amounts would no longer enjoy the 20-day interest-free period for new retail transactions.
However, those who settle their credit card outstanding amounts in full every month will continue to enjoy the interest-free period.

Inflation! How to handle?

Increasing price of petrol by RM 2.70 litre and with the cost living going up... what is the best way for us to keep our financial health? Do we need to change our lifestyle? Do we need to do part time job? Do we need to stop cutting our meals? Do we need to ask bosses to increase the salary? All this things must change but how much can we change? Salary increment is not in our control. Petrol price increase by 40% but salary increase less than 10%. How can we survive.
I'm very scared when think about inflation. I think I will start to dining at home for 3 meals.... sound quite boring right? But we must start to practise this. One more thing is shop smart and look out for bargains and sales items only.

Mutual Fund is the best place to invest

Currently government encourage us to use EPF money to invest. I just withdraw my EPF money to invest in Mutual Fund. It's very easy step to do that. Check your EPF from account 1. Submit your application form to unit trust company and wait for EPF approval. Invest in unit trust is a long term saving. Make your money growth and don't keep it in one basket.

Credit Card Debts

Yesterday in Star newspaper Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcob announce that more than 6,000 credit card holders have been declared bankrupt in the past four years. The industry facing about RM2.5bil in bad debts! He also informed that up to February this year, there was a total of RM23.3bil in credit card debts of which RM20.8bil was the current debt.
Tips from me as a card holder's:
  • Please pay more than minimum amount on time, if not your debt will be increase and you are unable to control it for the following month.
  • Encourage to have only one credit card.
  • If you are loyal to the card and was using it for more than 2 years please call up to Customers Service to wave the annual fees.
  • Don't influence with credit card seller's even though they have give you a free gift.
  • Always check and know your debt before swipe the card.

Manage yourself, manage your debts...... you are free from bankruptcy

Value For Money

I have read The Star on last Sunday 11 May by Stephen Ng mention about value for money. What can you eat with RM3 these days?

Yes with RM3 I think we can only eat nasi lemak with teh tarik. But in The Star Metro mention about Giant Hypermarket in Taman Connaught, Kuala Lumpur that there are stalls within the CMC Shopping Complex that serve decent meals for only RM3. Wow.... this is a great price. The set that costly RM3 is mutton curry, kangkong, sambal brinjal and cucumber served with a plate of white rice. Beside that they are many meals that we can choose with only RM3.
As we know these day we will have to live with much higher food prices. It's not easy to have a good lunch with RM3 per day. Normally if we take chicken and vegetable with white rice is cost RM4.50 to RM5.

Save money can get rich?

How to get rich? Does everyone makes enough money to become rich? It's not easy to get rich. But I want to get rich!!!!

Money did not come to us easily we must work hard to get the money. However to be stay in a better lifestlye we must know how to spend our money and getting your spending under control. Two things that very important is know what you earn and estimate what you spend each month. If you can manage this two things I believe your financial are save!

Remember that "saving will not make you rich. Only canny investments do that. The role of savings is to keep you from becoming poor". This statement is created by Jane Bryant Quinn.

Earn more.. spend more..

I always believe this word...if we earn more we will spend more! This is true! I'm look at my self during I was full time working especially when go out to shopping centre. I'm easily spend money because I'm think that I still have money and by end of the month my salary will be credited into my bank account. However I'm still can control my expenses and not overspend on it.
What I means by spend more is some people might be buy property which is good for investment and some people can change car every 2 years or may be eating outsite everyday and etc...
It's not important whether you spend more or less but the important thing is don't spend more than what you are earn. You will be in trouble if this happen to you.

Easier life with credit cards......

I started to hold my own cerdit card when I was 25 years old.... until today I'm still using it but very minimum...usage. I feel convenient to use credit card especially when I go shopping. I always make sure if I use it this month I will pay at least half from the expenses. Don't pay minimum payment which is shown in credit card statement. Keep in mind if we only pay minimum payment it will increase our debt...
Even though credit card give us great convenient and make our life easier but they can also make our life in trouble if we overspending on credit card. First of things that we need to remember is know your credit limit and set your own credit limit. Knowing your limitations could help you stop the unnecessary spending through the use of credit cards.

Women and Money...

I love to read motivation books and today I just get my new books from my friends. " Smart Women Finish Rich " by David Bach. The book is talking about how can woman achieve financial security and funding the dream. I read a few pages and it's very interesting for women to know their dream.

I have a dream to be a millionaire but I know it's going to take a long journey and must scarified a lot of things. One thing for sure is TIME! Every rich people only have 4 to 5 hours to sleep at night. I always saying this to my husband and my sister. If you want to create more money you must work hard. For me money is not everything but....without money we are in trouble!

I want to live in a better lifestyle and to give somethings that I was miss in the past of my life to my kids.

Avoid Debt!

I believe everybody can't run away from debt! I'm very worried if my credit card goes up to Rm800. Normally I'll not use it unless very urgent or I purchase an expensive items such as sofa, aircond etc...
Here I would like to share ideas how to stay debt-free or reduce debt:
  • Do not bring your credit card when you go out.
  • Don't buy if you not afford it.
  • Pay off existing debt: study loan
  • Cut your expenses or reduce unnecessary expenses.
  • Do a check list before go shopping

For me do a check list before go shopping is really effective. I know what I want to buy and never over spend on it. I also can save my time and will not spend time to long in the shopping complex.

How Smart To Spend Money From Your Income

Before I'm married I feel my financial are quit ok means I still have balance and enjoy my life. May be because I'm staying with my sister. I just gave her RM100 per month to pay telephone bill. However after I'm married I'll need to plan it nicely.
When I'm was single I'm never wait end of the month whereby salary credited to my bank account. This is very different when I'm married and have kids. I will be happy when come to month end especially on 25th. Every time salary has been credited to my bank account, first day or second day I'll withdraw money and started to pay a debt such as: credit card payment, housing loan, car loan, children education fees, hp bill, etc....
After make a payment to this such things the balance will be using for day to day until next salary.
I'm very proud because I never over spend and borrow money from anyone eventhough from my husband. My kids need will be fullfill and make sure they are happy. Once a month I'll bring them to KFC or Pizza Hurt.
But now I'm very happy because I'm not depend on my salary but on my own income. Beside my blog I also involved in MLM biz.
